The new heritage tail flash is a proud tradition of the Air Force, the wyvern logo represents strength, yellow represents Air Force excellence and blue alludes to the sky.

La nuova Special Tail è stata realizzata con i colori che caratterizzano il logo dello Stormo, blu e oro, separati da una linea ondulata e dalla caratteristica Viverna, creatura leggendaria rappresentata come un rettile alato bipede, simile al drago della tradizione europea.

Il logo della viverna rappresenta la forza, il giallo rappresenta l’eccellenza dell’Air Force e il blu allude al cielo. E’ stato inoltre applicato il motto dello Stormo “Return with Honor” (ritorna con onore)

Il 31st Fighter Wing

Il 31 ° FW mantiene due squadroni di caccia multiruolo Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon, il 555 ° Fighter Squadron “TRIPLE NICKEL” e il 510 ° Fighter Squadron “BUZZARDS”.

Il 31 ° FW ospita anche il 56 ° Rescue Squadron, equipaggiato con gli elicotteri HH60 Pave Hawk, in grado di effettuare evacuazioni sanitarie urgenti in operazioni SAR e CSAR, integrandosi con forze speciali per supporto ad inserimento, estrazione e recupero di militari statunitensi ed alleati in territorio ostile.

Oltre al 56 ° Rescue Squadron il 31st FW ospita anche il 57th Rescue Squadron che guida, organizza, addestra ed equipaggia i “Guardian Angels” e le squadre di supporto al combattimento nel condurre operazioni CSAR. Inoltre, il 57th RQS fornisce esperti in materia di recupero del personale, ricerca e soccorso in combattimento, ricerca e soccorso civile ed evacuazione di feriti, per soddisfare i requisiti di cooperazione in materia di sicurezza di USEUCOM (United States European Command), USAFRICOM (United States Africa Command) e NATO.

Quando non impegnato in missioni reali, il 31st FW si prepara per il suo ruolo di combattimento mantenendo aerei, attrezzature e personale in un elevato stato di prontezza e addestramento.

La posizione geografica del 31st Fighter Wing è infatti strategica, essendo l’unico stormo equipaggiato con velivoli fighter USAF a sud delle Alpi, nell’area Meridionale della NATO.
